Garibaldi Pumice has provided over 20,000 cubic metres of dacite pumice lightweight fill (lwf) material for the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement project. Recently, the Company provided just over 5000 cubic metres of dacite lwf for the Golden Ears Connector (GEC). The GEC is a BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure project built to link the Golden Ears Bridge and Highway 17. During the project a test section was completed (photos below). Compactive effort requirements for our lwf were assessed by testing material after 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 passes of a roller compactor. The in-place, saturated surface-dry density of Garibaldi’s lwf was determined to be approximately 800 kg/m3 after sufficient machine compaction (4 passes). A full description of testing is available upon request.
